Google chrome OS revealed !


Hot News for open source people and bad news for Microsoft ! Today google has revealed its much talked OS, Google chrome OS in a small event. The OS is yet at its early stage and long way to go to Beta stage. The OS and the entire system will be webbased and runs in Chrome browser. For Example , when you open a word document or a Notepad, the document will be displayed as a new tab on the Chrome browser. Believe it or not even the contents of USB will be displayed in a new Tab.

Web applications are present in a panel which includes
* Twitter
* Gmail
* Facebook
* Hulu
* Yahoo mail
* Google Calendar
* Picassa Web
* Youtube
* calculator
* Notepad
* Todo list

Google has also mentioned that this OS is mainly targetted for those who primarily use the web. Lets keep an eye on Google OS latest updates.

Will Bing replace Google?

Bing! The new search engine is launched by Microsoft as a possible replacement for Google. Microsoft live search will be replaced by Bing from Wednesday, 3rd June 2009.Bing updates its homepage daily with a beautiful screenshot which is more attractive than the normal white Google homepage. It also allows you to know the details about the screenshot( place) by moving the mouse over the picture.

Coming to the main feature, Bing does provide a detailed search result with mouse over the links on the search results as shown on the picture below. Bing also provides the features of Video and Image searching but have to wait and see how accurate it is when compared to Google.

According to experts review , Bing is a robust search engine. Are you thinking of whether Bing will replace Google in future? Well wait for few months and see if your neighbours,friends are using Bing , if so then it has already replaced Google.

Google Mail service is down !!

Google Mail service went down yesterday for some reason in majority of UK for an unknown reason. This affected a lot of corporate people who are using it for official purpose in order to reduce cost for running their own mail servers.Google reported that they are working on this issue giving the highest priority to it and following were the words published by Google on their Gmail support site.

"We're aware of a problem with Gmail affecting a number of users. This problem occurred at approximately 1.30AM Pacific Time. We're working hard to resolve this problem and will post updates as we have them. We apologize for any inconvenience that this has caused".

Edit Google Docs on Mobile?


Google has announced new capabilities of list view of spreadsheets on Mobiles like Iphone,Nokia N60, Google/T-mobile G1 and also on ipod Touch.Mobile Smartphone Users can now view, edit, sort and filter spreadsheets. It allows users to even add rows, edit cells ,use filter options and many more on their phones which was just an imagination while ago. Users who would like to give this feature a try can type m.google.com.docs on their browser.

Google G2 Launch - Vodafone Signs Exclusive deal !


Google is set to announce its most rumoured phone G2 on Mobile world congress in Barcelona. UK Vodafone has signed an exclusive deal for Google's G2 mobile which is also a Android phone. Though HTC the manufacturer and Vodafone are denying the existence of Google G2 mobile, the photos have been leaked on the internet to publicise and increase the sales.The first Google mobile G1 was exclusive to T-mobile.

Gmail adds Location to your signature


Within a few days of Latitude's release, Google has introduced the feature of adding your location automatically to your signature. To use this feature follow the procedure below:

* Go to Labs tab under settings, Enable the option "location in signature " and save changes


* Go to GMail signature preferences and select "Append your Location to the signature".

It works like a charm!

Gmail labs - Multiple Inboxes from Google


Yet another feature released by Google on Feb 5th from the Labs. This latest features allows to you to have multiple Inboxes categorised into regular unclassified mails, Starred mails,Labelled mails and Drafts. Each category is displayed in different panels and Google allows you to adjust the position to the right, left or below the main panel.This reduces time in browsing through the whole lot of mails in search of a particular mail.As we all know Google allows Employees 20% of their time to be worked on Personal project and here is the result put forward by a Google Employee as his personal Project.

Measurement Labs(M-Lab)


Measurement labs has been launched by google for auditing the broadband speed at your home.Measurement Lab (M-Lab) is an open platform for researchers to deploy Internet measurement tools. By this way Google is expecting to enhance Internet transparency and to help sustain a healthy and innovative Internet. This in Beta stage now.

I tried this tool a couple of times and was not successful with all the tools available as the servers were down. But did manage to test the BitTorrent analyser Glasnost and the analysis was quite useful. This tool is to test whether BitTorrent is being blocked or throttled through the ISP or network administrator.

Google Latitude

Google Latitude is a tracking software by which you can track your friends or your employees via google Maps. The software will be available for most of the smartphones,mobiles,blackberries including the Apple iPhone. This new feature has been launched by Google today and it allows users to find the approximate location of their friends and families if they have opted to share the location details with the users. Latitude also provides the ability of SMS,google talk or Gmail or to update users status and also allows to even upload a new profile photo.
